In this article, I want to share a few mistakes a recent client made when painting his house himself. Hopefully, you can avoid these mistakes and save yourself some time, money, and effort by avoiding these pitfalls.
Let’s jump right in with seven mistakes you don’t want to make painting your bedroom:
Shaking Your Paint
Shaking the paint is a waste of time. You might think it’s doing you some good when in reality, all that does is incorporate more bubbles into your project- which will then be visible on the surface and obvious to see as well!
Instead, try stirring the paint. Or better yet, buy pre-stirred house paint because it has already been thoroughly mixed without you having to do it yourself.
When you are getting ready to paint your bedroom, don’t forget the sanding! All surfaces must have a smooth finish for painting.
You can also sand between coats if you think it’s needed, but if you’ve done a great job the first time around, then this step is not necessary.
Using Primer as a Top Coat
Another bedroom painting mistake we see a lot is people using primer as a top coat.
Don’t use primer as a top coat to save yourself some time and money! This can be a mistake because you will spend more time covering that paint with the topcoat.
Instead, wait for a day or two after you’ve applied the primer to your room, and then start applying the topcoat. It will look better because you won’t be trying to cover up that primer underneath!
Not Wiping Up Spills
When painting your bedroom, you must wipe up any spills as soon as they happen.
You don’t want your paint to dry because it will be a pain to clean up, and you’ll have a mess on your hands! It’s essential to wipe as soon as you can so that you can avoid this mistake.
Applying To Much Paint
One of the biggest mistakes people make when painting their house is applying too much house paint to the wall.
Instead, try to apply thin coats instead of one big thick coat because it will make your life easier, and you’ll be happier with how it looks in the end!
Not Taping Off The Area
It would be best if you always taped off your areas when painting any room because you don’t want paint on places where it isn’t supposed to be.
Doing this is a great way to save yourself from making a mistake!
Not Measuring First
Before you get started painting, make sure to measure your room. You don’t want to get halfway through the job and realize that the paint isn’t enough!
Measure twice before you start to avoid any mistakes in the future.
Using The Wrong Kind Of Paint
Lastly, the wrong kind of paint can be a significant problem for you as you work on your bedroom.
Always make sure you are using the correct type of paint for any project. If you could use latex, but all you have is oil-based paint, then change it up to something that works better!
